The goal of psychotherapy is to eliminate or control disabling or troubling symptoms so the patient can function better.

Psychotherapy is a treatment that involves a relationship between a psychologist and a patient.

Psychotherapy can be short-term, dealing with immediate issures or long-term dealing with longstanding and complex issues.

The patient and psychologist plan the goals of treatment and arrangements of how often and how long to meet.

Finding a psychologist with whom an individual can work well is important.

Confidentiality is a basic requirement of psychotherapy
